Conceptual Edits for Alyssa Casey
Key Takeaways:
As Alyssa Casey shares in her proposal, “when [she gets] the option to choose a writing assignment, [she] always decide[s] on a scholarly essay, and [she] almost always regret[s] it” (Casey).
My knowledge of her college journey, my own personal experiences throughout my undergraduate, and this single line of her proposal emphasized the importance of this assignment to Casey: this project could act as a way to branch out and explore her creative side. Interacting with Casey’s webtext proposal afforded me a particularly excellent opportunity to put my compassion into practice as her conceptual editor in a very distinctive way.
Through my conceptual edits of Casey’s proposal, I sought to inspire further consideration of her goals for the piece, as well as provide encouragement and express enthusiasm for her idea. Since she has never written fiction before, my comments convey support of her ideas and sources of inspiration while also inviting her to delve into the reasoning for her setting. I engaged with her piece in this way with hope of sparking intentional decisions for her story as it develops.
